Many great painters tried to portray this state in different ways. Some landscapes, some abstractions, some just genre scenes. The artist Brodsky collected on his canvas everything that can at least somehow characterize Italy. See for yourself, sultry women, a riot of fruits and vegetables, national crafts - beads. And of course, the canvas is saturated with Italian air.

We are not shown an ordinary market, it is most likely a small platform between the houses where local goods are traded. There are a lot of grapes in baskets (Italian winegrowers are considered the best masters in winemaking), a lot of peaches and pears. Trading is intensive, but it’s not necessary to buy something. It is enough to just stand nearby and talk, and the Italians will always have something to talk about.

But what immediately catches your eye is that the market is clearly not urban, it is most likely a province. The background shows mountains and houses on the hills. Yes, and the saleswomen are not dressed in an urban way, and the buyer with the child, too. Not only that, it’s clear that she buys products for herself, but she clearly does not live in this town. Probably somewhere in the mountains. That’s why the donkey is so loaded. The Italians are thrifty people and, in addition, very good at cooking. That’s why donkey is so loaded with goods.

An extra trip to the city is a waste of time and nerves. Therefore, it is better to purchase everything at once, and you should not forget about trinkets. So easily, in one canvas, Isaac Brodsky gathered his impressions of Italy, which not only spoil, but, on the contrary, calls to visit this place and try to understand these Italians. But how everything is powerful and beautiful, juicy, depicted on the canvas.

One thing can be said about Brodsky himself - it is a miracle that he did not fall into the fur coat of repression. But it’s his grief that once he began to write Lenin, he did not stop there and spent all his wonderful talent on socialist realism, a direction that only destroyed him. He no longer returned to the landscapes, he painted the leaders. And thereby he lost several friends that were important in his life, and most importantly he lost - talent, becoming a simple artisan-copyist.
